Val Duncan in KLIMT'S PLAYTHINGS

KLIMT’S WOMEN/KLIMT’S PLAYTHINGS

For its 2018-2019 season, the Encounter company embarked on a 6-month performance experiment inspired by the lives – real and imagined – of the models immortalized in the paintings of Gustav Klimt

These two all-new works blend Expressionism, dance, theatre and performance art into a flashing mosaic – chaotic and beautiful, not unlike the works of the artist who inspires them.

Who were the women who posed for the paintings of Gustav Klimt and his contemporaries? What does it mean to become the sketch that becomes a masterpiece?
